Big Deal Company works with a variety of local nonprofits, helping to plan events that support their unique fundraising needs and challenges. We were thrilled to be asked back as event support for the community-centric and summer-favorite Meals on 4th event, benefitting the work and mission of Meals on Wheels of Loveland and Berthoud. Our team of professional event experts worked alongside the Development and Program Directors of this downtown Loveland nonprofit to plan a fabulous evening full of food, fun, and FUNdraising, right in the heart of downtown Loveland! This event takes place entirely outside, in the middle of 4th Street in the city block between Cleveland and Railroad. The planning for this event began back in January when streets were covered with snow and ice. It’s always a little stressful to work around what Mother Nature decides to do, but this year’s event - although smack dab in the middle of our Colorado Monsoons - was met with an absolutely gorgeous late Spring Colorado Day full of sunshine, blue skies, and comfortable temperatures! This event captured the essence of generosity, community spirit, and philanthropy that is so prevalent in the Loveland and Berthoud communities. It was a huge success - surpassing Meals on Wheels’ fundraising goals, and bringing people from all walks of life together to support such a worthy cause! Guests celebrated in style! Meals on Wheels of Loveland and Berthoud is celebrating 55 years of service in Southern Larimer County. Their year-long celebration was weaved throughout this event, boasting an atmosphere of a 1950s/1960s soda shop diner. Our team of event planners and the Meals on Wheels volunteers worked some decorative magic, creating an enchanting ambiance with period decorations and flair. Each table was adorned with a checkerboard runner, real vinyl records, and floral arrangements designed to look like ice cream sundaes! Guests were encouraged to dress up in period costumes, and musical guests, The Steve Manshel Trio set the mood with period tunes from the 1950s and 1960s. A True Expression of Community This unique fundraising event is built on a large amount of community involvement. Guests are treated to a multi-course meal, with each course provided by a different local restaurant and drinks donated by local breweries and bars.We were honored to serve alongside the following Restaurant and Brewery Partners:
The event program focused on stories of hope and inspiration - told by a longtime Meals on Wheels Volunteer and Executive Director, Jeffrey Pomranka. To further boost the evening’s fundraising efforts, local auctioneers led a special Heads or Tails game where attendees competed to win a special Date Night Air BnB package that included an overnight stay at a Downtown Arts District Bungalow and local restaurant and drink gift cards. The evening concluded with a very successful Paddle Raise, collecting $23,600 in support of Meals on Wheels food and programs! Thanks to the collective efforts of Mother Nature, the organization, vendors, volunteers, and the generosity of the community, Meals on 4th exceeded all expectations! The success of the evening will undoubtedly have a significant impact on the ability of Meals on Wheels to make a difference in the lives of more homebound individuals - feeding and supporting our community for generations to come! It’s been nearly a month since we made the leap from My Big Day to BIG DEAL Company. While we have been basking in the glow of the change and are looking forward to an official unveiling of this rebrand at our Loveland Chamber Ribbon Cutting event next month, it is important to note that this change did not just happen overnight. Why we made the BIG change In the fast-paced world of business, companies often face the need to evolve and adapt to stay relevant. This was made very obvious to our team during the recent Covid-19 pandemic. When the world shut down in 2020, so did events. Our face-to-face work dried up in a matter of minutes. As a full-scale event company, we offered event marketing support for our clients, but marketing was always secondary to the creative and memorable events we had become known for. Covid-19 forced us to pivot and take a deeper dive into how we could still support our clients and new prospects through our expansive marketing knowledge and experiences, along with virtual or hybrid events. When My Big Day began 17 years ago, our focus was primarily on one-off events, marketing of those events, social celebrations and weddings. We built signature events designed to bring people together for fun, important causes, and memory-making. As our team grew, and as we creatively pivoted through the pandemic, we spent time focusing on our brand’s identity, our market position, and our main purpose. Through a lot of work and reflection, our team ultimately decided that our name no longer fully captured our full-service offerings. We decided that it was time to initiate a company rebrand. What is a company rebrand and insight into the BIG DEAL rebrand journey A rebrand goes beyond changing logos and colors - it involves a comprehensive process that aims to redefine a company’s identity, enhance its market positioning, and ignite a renewed sense of purpose. As mentioned before, our team spent time reflecting on and studying our brand identity, market position, and goals. Through our self-reflection, we were able to identify weaknesses and areas that we wanted to see improve. We spent time focusing on our mission, vision, and values and discussed how our My Big Day name did or did not perfectly align with these important markers. We surveyed customers and potential customers - asking them how they felt our brand represented the work that we did. Many people shared that when they heard the name, My Big Day, they immediately thought of “wedding planner”. While weddings were and still are a part of our skill sets and events, they only represent less than 10% of the actual work that we do. After we gathered feedback about our brand identity and name, we spent time clarifying our company’s positioning, our target audiences, our messaging, and brand promise. We wanted to make sure that by considering a rebrand of our business, we would be differentiating ourselves from other similar marketing and event agencies. Our team spent retreat time crafting a new statement of purpose, defining our mission, and focusing on our vision. Our leadership spent time learning about rebranding and business development through workshops, entrepreneurial retreats, and working with brand experts. After all of this work, we concluded that rebranding through a careful and thought-out process would enhance and benefit the work that our team did. That is how My Big Day was reborn as BIG DEAL Company. The BIG DEAL Purpose Enabling the goals and dreams of others brings our BIG DEAL team joy. It was a process in which we studied and redefined our purpose, aligned it with current market expectations, and focused our mission on the work we have evolved into doing. By following this comprehensive rebranding process, we hope we have emerged refreshed and with a brand identity that more clearly expresses the work we do, resonates with our target audience, inspires team collaboration and creativity, and will ultimately propel our company forward into a new era of success! Planning a successful fundraiser requires careful consideration, a group of dedicated individuals and meticulous planning. While there are a plethora of details and steps to follow, defining fundraising goals is always the best place to start when planning a non-profit fundraiser. This involves identifying specific financial targets, the purpose of the fundraiser, and the programs or projects that it will support. Next, think about what would motivate people to support your organization, and begin to build creative and engaging fundraising ideas that align with your cause and resonate with your target audience. Do your followers prefer fancy gala dinners? Are they active and willing to participate in a charity run? Do they prefer online options such as a crowdfunding campaign? Select an idea that suits your resources, capacity, and the preferences of your donor base. Once you have an idea of how you will gather your followers and supporters, begin working on a dynamic event timeline. This timeline should outline all the key tasks leading up to the fundraiser. Set specific deadlines for each task, including securing a venue, arranging permits, and contacting and hiring vendors. This timeline should also include a communications and marketing plan for your event’s promotion. All fundraising events require a dedicated team of volunteers who can serve as ambassadors for your brand and are passionate about your cause. Start your volunteer search early, contacting interested parties often and consistently. Offset event costs by securing sponsors and event partners. Approach local businesses, corporations, and individuals who share your organization’s values and may be interested in sponsoring or partnering with your event. A variety of sponsorship levels and benefits are always a good way to attract donors. The event brought together over 200 guests, including students and their families, local politicians and dignitaries, board members, and center neighbors, for an afternoon of fellowship and fun! The event featured tasty and festive food and drink, kid-friendly activities, live musical entertainment provided by Widespread Hispanic, an interactive dance presentation, and a special ribbon cutting for the new infant playground. The event kicked off at 2:00 pm in the north parking lot of The Family Center. Guests were encouraged to participate in guided tours of the early childhood and family resource center, an opportunity to see first-hand, what happens every day in this special place. Donors who attended expressed their excitement in seeing their dollars at work while visiting community members and were surprised at all of the services offered at The Family Center! The highlight of the day was the special ribbon-cutting presentation that was held for the recently completed infant playground. This special addition to the center was made possible through the generosity of a La Familia donor. This event was planned as a community connector, bringing families, donors, and community members together in celebration.
