Fall makes party planning easy. With cooler weather, colorful leaves, seasonal foods, football, Halloween, harvest time, and cozy get-togethers, there’s no shortage of inspiration. And you have more choices than just pumpkins and orange tablecloths. They give people a chance to connect face to face. Research from Freeman and The Harris Poll found that 95% of professionals trust a brand more after attending its in-person events, and 82% think meeting in person is the best way to build strong professional relationships. This makes fall a great time for businesses, nonprofits, and organizations to bring people together before the holiday rush. A well-planned event can strengthen relationships, celebrate employees, thank clients, raise awareness, or just let people enjoy each other's company. No matter what you’re planning, whether it’s a company event, fundraiser, neighborhood party, birthday, client gathering, or just a get-together with friends, a strong theme ties everything together. It helps you choose décor, food, entertainment, activities, and even invitations. Here are 10 fall event themes, ranging from laid-back and cozy to stylish and unexpected. 1. Modern Harvest Dinner: Think harvest party, but with a fresh twist. Skip filling every spot with pumpkins and go for a more refined look. Use natural textures, seasonal greenery, wood accents, candles, dried grasses, and just a few well-placed gourds. Right now, fall decorating trends favor natural materials, richer colors, and details that enhance a space instead of taking it over. Décor Ideas: Use long farm tables, linen runners, amber glassware, wood serving boards, dried florals, apples, pears, mini pumpkins, and plenty of candlelight. Activity Ideas: Host a wine or cider tasting, serve a farm-to-table dinner, or have guests write what they’re thankful for on cards to add to the décor. This theme works well for corporate dinners, client appreciation events, fundraisers, rehearsal dinners, or Friendsgiving. 2. Fall Festival, Grown-Up Edition: Take all the best parts of a classic fall festival and tailor them for adults. Set up different areas for guests to explore during the event, instead of having everyone sit at a table the whole time. Décor Ideas: String lights, picnic tables, plaid blankets, barrels, wooden signs, mums, lanterns, fire pits, and cozy lounge areas. Activity Ideas: Cornhole tournaments, pumpkin bowling, live music, food trucks, local beer or cider tastings, lawn games, and a fire pit with gourmet s’mores. If it’s a company event, encourage some friendly competition between departments. Bragging rights don’t cost a thing and can be a big motivator. 3. Murder Mystery in the Mountains: Fall is a great time to add some intrigue. Plan an event inspired by an old mountain lodge, a historic hotel, or a remote cabin where something mysterious has happened, and anyone could be the culprit. Décor Ideas: Vintage luggage, old books, brass candlesticks, lanterns, antique frames, dark florals, maps, keys, and handwritten clues. Activity Ideas: You can hire a murder mystery company or set up teams to collect clues during the night. Ask guests to dress up and give them character roles ahead of time. This theme is great for company parties, birthdays, retreats, Halloween events, and fundraisers. 4. Après Autumn: Who says you have to wait for snow to enjoy après-ski vibes?Bring in the relaxed feel of a mountain lodge and host an “Après Autumn” event with cozy seating, warm drinks, mountain-inspired food, and outdoor fun. Décor Ideas: Plaid blankets, faux fur, lanterns, wood accents, mountain greenery, fire pits, string lights, and comfortable lounge furniture. Activity Ideas: Set up a hot chocolate or coffee bar, offer outdoor games, bring in acoustic music, create a build-your-own trail mix station, or host a cocktail hour by the fire. Want more Colorado-inspired event ideas? Check out the BIG DEAL Company blog for venues, planning tips, and inspiration. 5. Fall Field Day: Not every company event has to be another cocktail party. A Fall Field Day gets people moving and working together, making networking and team building feel more natural. Décor Ideas: Team pennants, colorful bandanas, chalkboard scoreboards, picnic tables, hay bales, and simple fall florals. Activity Ideas: Create teams for relay races, giant Jenga, cornhole, trivia, scavenger hunts, tug-of-war, pumpkin rolling, or even some silly office-themed games. Wrap up with food, drinks, and fun awards—not just for first place, but for things like Best Team Spirit or Most Questionable Strategy. 6. Dark Academia Dinner Party: If you want something totally different from classic fall décor, try the moody side of the season. Dark Academia blends old libraries, vintage university vibes, candlelit dinners, literature, and historic architecture for a sophisticated fall theme. Décor Ideas: Stacks of old books, taper candles, dark green or burgundy linens, brass accessories, vintage frames, botanical prints, old maps, and handwritten place cards. Activity Ideas: You could host literary trivia, a mystery game, dramatic readings, a whiskey tasting, or even a 'secret society' scavenger hunt. This theme is perfect for historic venues, museums, libraries, old hotels, or any space with dramatic architecture. 7. Campfire Social: Sometimes, simple is best. A Campfire Social sets up a relaxed, casual space where people can unwind and really connect. Décor Ideas: Fire pits, Adirondack chairs, blankets, lanterns, thermoses, string lights, enamel mugs, picnic tables, and outdoor lounge furniture. Activity Ideas: Set up a gourmet s’mores bar, invite an acoustic musician, serve chili or soup flights, play camp-themed trivia, or organize yard games. If it’s a company event, skip the forced networking and set up a few smaller seating areas. Comfortable spots to gather usually spark conversation on their own. 8. Vintage Halloween: Halloween doesn’t have to be all about inflatable ghosts and plastic skeletons. A vintage Halloween party brings a sense of nostalgia, style, and just the right amount of spookiness. Décor Ideas: Black taper candles, vintage Halloween illustrations, old apothecary bottles, antique frames, black lace, pumpkins, dried flowers, candelabras, and warm amber lighting. Activity Ideas: Host a costume contest with unique categories, offer tarot card readings, show classic scary movies, play Halloween trivia, set up a photo booth, or create a themed cocktail or mocktail station. Looking for visual inspiration before you decorate? Follow BIG DEAL Company on Pinterest for event décor, theme ideas, and entertaining tips you can save for your next party. 9. Game Day Tailgate: Fall and football go hand in hand, so why not embrace it?A tailgate-themed event can be as casual or as polished as you want, depending on your guests. Décor Ideas: Team colors, pennants, turf-inspired table runners, stadium-style food stations, picnic tables, coolers, string lights, and oversized screens. Activity Ideas: Football toss competitions, cornhole, squares, trivia, prediction boards, tailgate food competitions, or a chili cook-off. Not everyone follows football, so include games and activities that don’t require knowing who’s playing quarterback. The goal is to make the event welcoming even for guests who came strictly for the snacks. 10. Autumn After Dark: Instead of building the theme around pumpkins or leaves, build it around what happens when the sun goes down. This theme is perfect for outdoor events in September or October, when the evenings are cool but still pleasant. Décor Ideas: Use lots of twinkle lights, lantern pathways, lit-up trees, candles, glowing centerpieces, fire pits, and cozy lounge areas. Stick to a simple color palette and let the lighting set the mood. Activity Ideas: Bring in live music, create an outdoor movie area, offer telescope stargazing, set up fire pits, host a nighttime scavenger hunt, or create an illuminated photo area. This theme works well for fundraisers, client appreciation events, milestone celebrations, and company parties. It feels seasonal without being linked to any one holiday. The best fall theme is the one your guests will love. A theme should make planning simpler, not add a long shopping list. First, think about how you want your guests to feel. Do you want them laughing and competing, relaxing by a fire, dressing up, exploring, networking, or enjoying a beautiful meal together? Once you know the experience you want, pick a theme that fits. Focus on a few key details—lighting, décor, food, entertainment, and one or two memorable activities. You don’t need everything to match the theme. Sometimes, less is more. Looking for more ideas? If your fall event has gone from 'This could be fun' to 'Who’s going to organize all of this?' BIG DEAL Company is here to help. From creative ideas and venue selection to vendors, logistics, décor, entertainment, and event-day coordination, our team can turn your vision into an event you’ll actually enjoy. Frequently Asked Questions 1. How far in advance should I start planning a fall event? For a larger corporate event, fundraiser, or private celebration, several months of lead time gives you more choices for venues, entertainment, rentals, and vendors. Smaller gatherings can often come together faster, but popular September, October, and November dates can fill quickly. BIG DEAL Company also recommends planning holiday events early so you have more options rather than choosing from what’s left. 2. How can I decorate for fall without making everything orange? Use texture and natural materials instead of relying entirely on traditional fall colors. Wood, greenery, dried grasses, linen, wool, brass, amber glass, candlelight, burgundy, olive, chocolate brown, and muted gold can create a distinctly autumnal atmosphere without turning the room into a pumpkin patch. Natural materials and deeper, muted colors are also showing up prominently in current seasonal décor. 3. How do I choose the right fall theme for a corporate event? Start with your goal, not the décor. If you want employees interacting, consider Fall Field Day or a Fall Festival. If you’re entertaining clients, a Modern Harvest Dinner or Autumn After Dark may fit better. For team building, a Murder Mystery or activity-focused event gives guests a reason to work together. The theme should support what you want people to experience, not simply make the room look seasonal. Ready to make your fall event a BIG DEAL? Your favorite graduate is finally done! The textbooks are closed, the gowns are donned, and it's time to celebrate. Graduation receptions are happy occasions, but they can also feel overwhelming. As the big day gets closer, it’s easy to get caught up in planning, making guest lists, and, honestly, feeling a bit stressed. Don’t worry, we’re here to help. At Big Deal Company, we want to help you make great memories without any mishaps. Here’s our easy guide to what not to do when hosting or attending a graduation reception. Keep reading to make sure your celebration is all cheers and no tears! 1. Don't...Wait 'Til the Last Minute! The graduation date has been set for months. If you wait until the last week to send invitations, plan the menu, or book a venue, you’ll end up stressed and might end up with fewer guests. Start early and give yourself enough time to organize everything. 2. Don't...Forget the Food! Trust us on this one: hungry guests are not happy guests. With all the excitement and maybe less sleep, it’s easy to misjudge how much food you’ll need. To keep everyone satisfied, try a buffet. It’s simple, lets everyone choose what they like, and you can even set up a build-your-own bar for tacos, burgers, or ice cream sundaes. Your guests will appreciate the tasty and thoughtful food. 3. Don't...Make the Guest of Honor Feel Uncomfortable! This day is for the graduate, so make sure they feel comfortable and happy. Don't pressure them to give a speech if they’re shy, or ask about their future plans if they're still figuring it all out. A simple, "We're so proud of you!” and a hug is often enough. Focus on celebrating what they’ve achieved, not asking too many questions about what’s next. 4. Don't...Overdo It on the Decorations! We get it, you're proud. You want to plaster your grad's face on everything, from napkins to cupcakes. But sometimes less is more. Too many decorations can make the party feel crowded. Choose a simple theme and a few special decorations that show off your graduate’s personality and achievements. A photo backdrop, a personalized banner, or a memory jar are all great ideas. 5. Don't...Monopolize the Guest of Honor! Everyone wants to see the graduate, take pictures, and share congratulations. As proud parents or friends, it’s normal to want to be with them the whole time. But try not to take up all their attention. Let other guests have their turn. You’ll have time to catch up later. 6. Don't...Forget to Introduce People! A graduation reception can be a melting pot of different social circles. Family members, friends from school, neighbors...it can be a lot! Help everyone feel at ease by making introductions. A simple "Aunt Barb, I’d like you to meet Sarah, a friend from chem class!" can break the ice and lead to some great conversations. It's a small gesture that makes a big difference in making everyone feel welcome. 7. Don't...Forget the Weather Plan! If you're hosting an outdoor party, hope for sun but prepare for...well, anything (especially in Colorado). A sudden summer storm can put a major damper on things. Have a backup plan in place, whether it's a tent, a covered patio, or moving the party indoors. A little preparation can prevent a rainy-day disaster. 8. Don't...Make Long, Embarrassing Speeches! It’s natural to feel proud and want to share funny stories, but remember the graduate. Keep speeches short and positive. Offer a heartfelt toast, share a quick, uplifting story, and raise a glass to their future. Save the really embarrassing stories for a smaller group. 9. Don't...Forget to Relax and Enjoy the Party! As the host, you might get caught up in the details and forget to enjoy yourself. Remember, this is a celebration. Take time to relax, eat, and enjoy being with your loved ones. The best parties are the ones where the hosts have just as much fun as the guests. 10. Don't...Forget the "Thank You" Notes! When the party is over, and the last guest has left, there’s one more important step. Ask your graduate to send heartfelt "thank you" notes to everyone who came or sent a gift. This can be an email, a card, or even a phone call. It’s polite and a great way to show appreciation for all the support. Let Big Deal Company Handle the Heavy Lifting! We’re here to make your celebration easy, breezy, and—most importantly—fun. While we love sharing these tips and tricks to help you succeed, what we love even more is taking the pressure off you altogether. Why stress over the details when you could be making memories? Let us do the heavy lifting so you can actually enjoy the party you worked so hard to host. FAQ’s How do you plan a graduation party step by step? Start by choosing a date and creating your guest list. Next, send invitations, select a venue or prepare your home, and plan the food and decorations. Many hosts also add simple entertainment like a photo area or memory table. Starting early helps ensure you have time to organize everything and enjoy the celebration. How far in advance should you send graduation party invitations? Graduation party invitations should ideally be sent 3–4 weeks before the event. This gives guests enough time to RSVP and make plans, especially during the busy graduation season when many celebrations happen at once. What food is best to serve at a graduation party? Buffet-style meals or food stations work well for graduation parties because they’re easy for guests to enjoy while mingling. Popular options include taco bars, slider stations, barbecue buffets, and dessert tables. Choose foods that are easy to serve and accommodate a variety of tastes. What are some simple graduation party decoration ideas? Simple decorations often make the biggest impact. Consider using the graduate’s school colors, photo displays from childhood to graduation, personalized banners, and a guest memory book or advice jar. These elements add personality without overwhelming the space. How do you host a graduation party without stress? The key is to plan ahead and delegate when possible. Create a checklist, book rentals or catering early, and ask family members to help with small tasks. Many families also work with event planners or rental companies to handle setup so they can focus on celebrating the graduate. This season, event décor is bursting with bold personality, sustainable flair, and immersive design. Whether you’re styling a wedding, corporate event, or nonprofit fundraiser, the vibe is intentional, joyful, and maximalist. Here are 10 spring 2025 event décor trends and themes our team at BIG DEAL Company predicts will take center stage this season: Sustainable luxe Sustainability is no longer a trend – it’s an expectation. Spring 2025 events are embracing “green glam,” with upcycled décor, biodegradable confetti, and menus and tablescapes sourced from local farms – presented with high-end flair. Reclaimed wood signage, dried floral backdrops, and reusable fabric signage also give a luxe look with less waste. Maximalist florals In case you hadn’t guessed it from the “joyful and maximalist vibe,” minimalist greens are making way for big, bright florals. Wild color palettes, dyed pampas grass, and large-scale designs are all trending. Whether your budget allows for some bright accent blooms placed strategically throughout your space, or floor-to-ceiling installations, you can create an inviting and memorable experience for guests with bold, bright choices. Textured minimalism If minimalism is more suited to the tone of your event, tactile upgrades elevate the guest experience without the noise of in-your-face décor. Linen-wrapped chairs, raw-edge napkins, candle holders in natural materials, and ceramic serveware lend a variety of textures and blend well with eco-friendly luxe. Oversized everything This spring, you’re free to go big or go home when it comes to décor. From 8-foot floral sculptures to mega balloon arches, we’ve already seen some over-the-top examples of maximalist statements this spring. Large-scale installations double as photo backdrops and conversation starters at personal and business events alike. Bold color Why pick one pop of color when you can go all in? Color drenching – using a single bold hue in various tones and textures across décor – is stealing the spotlight. Think canary yellow lounges, marigold florals, amber lighting, and citrus-tinted cocktails to match. Immersive stories If your budget allows for it, guests are craving more than a party – they want to step into another world at your event. From Bridgerton-inspired garden soirees to sci-fi speakeasies, immersive themed experiences will dominate, with lighting, scent, and sound creating 360-degree atmospheres. This all-encompassing décor pairs well with the continuing micro-event trend, where hosts spend more per guest with a small guest count. Seasonal, local tablescapes In line with the spring season and with sustainability, seasonal, local menus and tabletop décor are on trend. Guests want an event that reflects what’s happening locally outdoors. Serve crisp, refreshing fare, and create a live tablescape with wildflowers or locally-grown blooms. Moss runners and fresh herb centerpieces create a fresh look that engages the senses without breaking the budget. Glass gardens The “glass gardens” theme embraces eco-luxe, bold florals, and the transparent trend all in one. Glass décor is blooming across table settings, installations, and even floral displays. Picture glass orbs filled with moss, hanging terrariums, and mirrored tabletops that reflect candlelight at golden hour. Micro zones Continuing a trend from previous years, events are being broken into small environments, called micro-zones, with their own mood lighting and themes. One area may glow with warm Edison bulbs for cocktails, another with pastel projection mapping for dining. It’s a choose-your-own-adventure experience with enhanced intimacy for your guests. Hybrid and micro-events With all of these décor trends and themes, hybrid and micro-events continue. Smaller guest counts allow for higher personalization. Multiple mini-events in one are on trend: a tasting garden, silent disco lounge, interactive branding booth, and live-streamed Q&A – all tailored for both in-person and virtual guests. These events involve a high spend per guest and aim to create a highly memorable, personalized experience for key players; think VIP customers or dream donors. Let’s bring your vision to life. At BIG DEAL Company, we specialize in creative events with trend-driven design, rooted in strategy, catered to your budget. Whether you’re hosting 50 or 5,000, we have the experience to curate events that feel effortless, engaging, and meaningful. Sustainability is a responsibility. At Big Deal Company, we take this responsibility seriously. Here’s a glimpse into how we ensure our events (and clients) leave a positive impact on the planet: Digital Transformation: Zoom, Zoom, Zoom! We’ve fully embraced digital meetings, reducing the need for in-person gatherings, and cutting down on transportation emissions. We also have moved all of our record-keeping to digital platforms, and work to keep most of our communications online, as well. By leveraging technology, we not only save time and resources but also significantly lessen our carbon footprint. Local Sourcing: From event items to printing materials, we prioritize sourcing locally. Not only does this support our community, but it also reduces the environmental impact associated with long-distance transportation. Team-wide Recycling: Sustainability starts at home! Our entire team is committed to personal recycling, ensuring that we minimize waste at home, in the office, and at our events. Comprehensive Recycling Options: We go the extra mile to provide recycling options at all our events. From dedicated bins to clear signage, we make it easy for our clients and their attendees to dispose of their waste responsibly. Reuse, Reuse, Reuse: Our commitment to sustainability extends to every detail, including event signage. We use recyclable paper for all printed signage and repurpose and reuse the frames that hold them, minimizing waste and maximizing resource efficiency. Linen Laundering: Whenever possible, we use and launder our own linens instead of opting for disposable alternatives. This not only reduces waste but also ensures a higher-quality experience for all. Recycled Decor: Sustainability doesn’t mean sacrificing style. We recycle and reuse decor for multiple events, giving each gathering our unique Big Deal touch while minimizing environmental impact. Compostable Catering: Food waste is a BIG DEAL. Whenever we’re not using china for an event, we prioritize compostable catering options, ensuring that even leftovers can sustainably return to the earth. BIG DEAL Carpool Karaoke: Transportation is a significant contributor to carbon emissions. That’s why our team strives to carpool to most events and meetings, reducing the number of vehicles on the road and the associated environmental footprint. Plus, we enjoy each other’s company - carpool time is team-building time, too! How We Help Clients Create Eco-Friendly Events:
Sustainability isn’t just a checkbox on an event “To-Do” list. It’s a BIG DEAL Core Principle that guides everything we do. Together, with our clients and partners, we’re shaping a brighter, greener future, one event at a time. Let’s make every gathering a celebration of sustainability!

Set against the stunning backdrop of their beautifully landscaped backyard, twinkling lights from the gorgeous trees provided by Primary Event Rentals created an enchanting atmosphere. The shimmering pool and festive cabana added to the charm, making it a night to remember. The theme for the evening was “All White”, and guests embraced the dress code, adding an elegant touch to the celebration. The top-notch entertainment featured the incredible Branden Sipes, whose music set the perfect tone for the night. Adding an element of fun and surprise, a talented roaming magician captivated the guests with his amazing tricks! Richard’s restaurant catering crew provided a delectable spread of food and manned the fully stocked bar, ensuring that every palate and guest was pleased. Choosing sustainable alternatives minimizes the event’s carbon footprint and fosters a culture of environmental responsibility. Eco-friendly events are not only popular, they are required by some companies who are trying to reduce their carbon footprint. Here are the top 5 products to consider when planning your next event: 1. Biodegradable utensils and tableware 2. Compostable decorations 3. Reusable banners and signage 4. Recycled paper products 5. Eco-friendly cleaning supplies Biodegradable utensils and tableware are typically made from materials such as bamboo, agave, or cornstarch and are a great alternative to single use plastic. They decompose naturally and reduce the plastic waste that is produced by most events. Compostable decorations such as banners and signs can be made from recycled materials or natural fibers. Most reusable signs are durable and can be reused for many events. Consider signs that can be utilized at multiple events to help further reduce waste and keep items out of the landfills. Recycled paper products can be used for invitations, programs and other promotional materials to help conserve natural resources and reduce energy consumption with production. You may also want to consider using QR Codes with links to timelines to help in reducing waste. Finally, incorporating eco-friendly cleaning supplies or employing an eco-friendly cleaning company ensures that the post-event cleanup is as environmentally friendly as possible. Look for products that minimize the introduction of harmful chemicals into our ecosystems while promoting a healthier environment for your attendees and staff. Here are 10 easy sustainable event practices that you can implement to minimize environmental impact without compromising on the quality of your event. Digital Invitations E-invites’ moment started long before the recent push for green events. Convenient and cost-effective, digital invitations reduce waste and mailbox clutter. Not only do digital invitations significantly reduce paper waste, digital platforms allow for easier RSVP tracking and communication with guests. Venue Selection When shopping for venues, prioritize venues that have sustainability initiatives in place. Look for venues with LEED certification, renewable energy sources, or a commitment to waste reduction. By supporting sustainable venues, you're contributing to a larger movement towards environmental responsibility. Reusable Decorations Instead of purchasing disposable decorations, opt for reusable options that can be used for future events or repurposed in other ways. At BIG DEAL, we invite clients to “shop” our stock of complimentary rental decor items. Potted plants that can be sent home with guests or auctioned off, fabric banners, or LED lighting to create a festive atmosphere without generating unnecessary waste. Green Transportation When venue shopping, consider proximity to your public transportation options and minimize the distance guests will travel to attend. Encourage attendees to carpool, use public transportation, or bike to your event. Offer incentives such as preferred parking for carpoolers or bike racks for cyclists. By reducing the number of vehicles on the road, you'll decrease carbon emissions and promote sustainable transportation alternatives. Zero Waste Catering Work with catering companies that specialize in zero-waste practices. Opt for locally sourced, organic foods and beverages, and ensure that all serving materials are compostable or recyclable. By minimizing food waste and single-use plastics, you'll significantly reduce your event's environmental footprint. Provide Plant-Based Food Options Using plant-based catering for events can significantly reduce the environmental impact by lowering greenhouse gas emissions associated with animal agriculture and minimizing water usage compared to traditional meat-based menus. Vegetarian and vegan guests appreciate having options to choose from at events, where they sometimes feel excluded. Waste Disposal Stations Set up clearly labeled recycling and compost bins throughout your event space to encourage proper waste disposal. Work with your venue or waste management company to ensure that waste is sorted correctly and diverted from landfills whenever possible. Donate Leftovers Coordinate with a local food bank or shelter to donate any leftover food from the event rather than letting it go to waste. Leftover decor can be reused at future events or auctioned off or sent home with guests to use and display at home. Local nursing homes and hospitals often appreciate donations of floral arrangements or live plants. Sustainable Swag If your event involves gift bags or other giveaways, opt for recycled, recyclable, and reusable items. Ideas we’ve used include:
End-to-End Mobile Solutions By leveraging mobile apps for event planning, registration, and communication, organizers can eliminate the need for paper-based processes, such as printed agendas and tickets, thus reducing paper waste. Mobile apps can also streamline logistics, allowing attendees to access event information, schedules, and updates in real-time, minimizing the need for printed materials and physical signage. Additionally, mobile ticketing and check-in solutions can streamline entry processes, reducing queuing times and minimizing the use of paper tickets or wristbands. By implementing these 10 easy sustainable event practices, you can significantly reduce the environmental impact of your gatherings while creating memorable experiences for attendees – and even saving money. Whether you're planning a corporate conference, wedding, or community fundraiser, small changes can add up to make a big difference. BIG DEAL Company looks forward to working together to promote sustainability in the events industry and pave the way for a greener future. Free downloadable:
