Press Release: Keep Super Bowl Celebrations Safe: Don’t Drive Drunk or HighJanuary 27, 2026
Fort Collins, Colorado - As Super Bowl LIX weekend approaches, No DUI NoCo, a Northern Colorado nonprofit dedicated to preventing impaired driving, urges all fans to plan ahead, celebrate responsibly, and protect lives on our roads. With millions celebrating across the country, there is an increased risk of alcohol- and drug-impaired driving – a fully preventable public health crisis. Nearly half of all traffic fatalities on Super Bowl Sunday involve alcohol. In 2022, about 45% of all fatal crashes involved alcohol impairment (MADD). Every day in the United States, nearly 30 people die in drunk driving crashes – one life lost every 50 minutes (NHTSA). This tragic toll affects families and communities in Colorado and beyond. Driving impaired isn’t just dangerous — it’s illegal; a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.08% or higher can lead to arrest and significant legal and financial consequences. “We believe most people want to do the right thing,” said Heather Vesgaard, executive director of Partners and No DUI NoCo. “By planning ahead and stepping up for friends and family, Super Bowl fans can help create a weekend full of good memories. We encourage everyone to ‘Make the Call’ for a ride home before you ever think about getting behind the wheel drunk or high.” No DUI NoCo reminds drivers that impairment includes alcohol, marijuana, prescription medications, and other drugs. Mixing substances can significantly increase impairment and crash risk. TIPS TO CELEBRATE SAFELY Be the VIP (Very Important Passenger) – Volunteer as the designated driver and commit to 100% sobriety. Your choice could save lives, including those of people you love. Be the Halftime Hero – If you’re hosting, provide plenty of food and non-alcoholic options throughout the event. A well-fed crowd pacing their drinks is a safer crowd. Call in Backup – If you or a friend can’t drive safely, choose a ride-share, taxi, or public transit instead of driving. Bench the Impaired – Talk openly with your guests: if someone has been drinking or using cannabis or other substances, encourage them to sit out the driving duties. Call 911 – If you see an impaired driver on the road, safely pull over and call 911. SUPER BOWL IMPAIRED DRIVING STATS
ABOUT NO DUI NOCO No DUI NoCo is working to get the word out about the dangers and consequences of teen impaired driving and offering solutions and tips on how to avoid or curb the effects on the greater community. No DUI NoCo, a coalition and campaign born out of the need to address the problem of impaired driving in northern Colorado, is working to prevent driving under the influence of alcohol or other substances. This project is a joint effort between law enforcement, government agencies, alcohol and cannabis retailers, local nonprofits, and community members, working together to encourage the general public to “Make the Call” to end impaired driving. No DUI NoCo is focusing on prevention efforts - education, tools, and messaging for groups and individuals who tend to risk driving regularly with elevated BACs, and who are involved in a higher number of alcohol-related crashes. Studies have shown that young people, ages 16-24, tend to have the highest number of drivers involved in DUI/DWI crashes with a BAC at or above legal intoxication levels and are the most likely group to drive within 2 hours of consuming cannabis (Colorado Department of Transportation). The goal of the next arm of the No DUI campaign is to reduce the number of DUI/DWI related crashes with this age group at the wheel. No DUI encourages all citizens to remain vigilant and to plan ahead when consuming alcohol. If you are the designated driver, make a commitment to 100% sobriety to keep you, your friends, and your family safe. If you see an impaired driver on the road, please “Make the Call” and contact local law enforcement (911) immediately. Remember: If you feel different, you drive different. No DUI NoCo Mission: The No DUI NoCo coalition and campaign was born out of the need to address the problem of impaired driving in our community. The goal is to prevent driving under the influence of alcohol or other substances by increasing community responsibility for safe and responsible driving. Our campaign is encouraging the public to “Make the Call” to end impaired driving in our community. Make the Call to get a safe ride home. Make the Call about whether you should get behind the wheel, and Make the Call to report suspected impaired drivers. Driving under the influence IS an emergency - please call 911 if you see someone you suspect is driving impaired. Partners, who absorbed this project from the former nonprofit Team Wellness & Prevention is the lead agency on this campaign. Partners has engaged a steering committee and named the project NO DUI NOCO. Contact: Heather Vesgaard, Executive Director - Partners [email protected]

October 2, 2025 Donna’s Law Fundraising Campaign Launches to Reduce Firearm Suicide Grassroots effort seeks $215,000 to make life-saving firearm self-exclusion tool accessible statewide Fort Collins, Colo. – Colorado has taken a major step forward in suicide prevention with the passage of Senate Bill 25-034, the Colorado Voluntary Do Not Sell Act, commonly known as Donna’s Law for Colorado. Governor Jared Polis signed the bill into law on June 2, 2025, making Colorado the fifth state in the nation to enact this life-saving measure. Colorado has long struggled with high suicide rates, ranking 13th in the nation for gun suicides and eighth for overall suicides. In 2023, 70% of firearm deaths in the state were self-inflicted, and nearly 80% of Colorado veterans who died by suicide used a firearm. Because suicide attempts with a firearm are almost always fatal, giving individuals the ability to voluntarily delay access to firearms can make the difference between life and death. Donna’s Law allows adults who may be at risk of self-harm to voluntarily, confidentially and reversibly add themselves to a “do-not-sell” list, blocking their ability to purchase firearms. Donna’s Law puts decision-making power directly in the hands of individuals and allows them to protect themselves against their future selves in crisis. The restriction is lifted 30 days after a participant requests to be removed from the list, ensuring both safety and autonomy. “Even a short waiting period can help save a life,” said Virginia Mack, a psychiatric nurse practitioner and military veteran from Fort Collins. “This tool gives people the ability to protect themselves before it’s too late.” Mack believes that Donna’s Law could have saved a student she worked with who tragically died by firearm suicide. The law was named for Donna Nathan, who died by firearm suicide in 2018 after impulsively purchasing a gun in minutes, despite recent inpatient mental health treatment. Her story inspired advocates across the country to push for legislation that empowers individuals to take proactive steps to keep themselves safe. Colorado joins Washington, Utah, Virginia, and Delaware, which have already implemented similar voluntary self-exclusion programs. The model mirrors other proven harm-reduction strategies, such as Colorado’s gambling self-exclusion program that allows individuals to voluntarily block themselves from casinos and online sportsbooks. To bring Donna’s Law to life in Colorado, advocates are now raising $215,000 to build a secure online portal where individuals can enroll in the program through the Department of Public Safety. The effort is fiscally sponsored by The Archer Group, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit created by Healthier Colorado, making all donations tax-deductible. How to Support Donna’s Law for Colorado:
“Every dollar brings us closer to saving lives,” said advocates. “By supporting Donna’s Law, Coloradans can help ensure that those in crisis have the time and space they need to survive and heal.” FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Northern Colorado Nonprofit Highlights Dangers of Teen Impaired Driving During Prom Season Northern Colorado - As prom season arrives in April and May, No DUI NoCo, a Northern Colorado organization dedicated to preventing impaired driving among young people in Larimer and Weld Counties, is raising awareness about the heightened risks associated with teen impaired driving during this celebratory period. While prom is a time for celebration and creating lasting memories, it is also a time when many young people engage in risky behaviors, particularly driving under the influence. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), prom night sees a significant increase in alcohol-related accidents involving teenagers. Roughly one-third of alcohol-related teen traffic fatalities occur during prom season, between April and June. The combination of excitement, peer pressure, and the desire to celebrate often leads to poor decision-making, putting not only the lives of the young drivers at risk but also those of their passengers and other road users. In addition to alcohol, impaired driving can also result from other substances, including marijuana and prescription drugs. It is crucial for parents and educators to address all forms of impairment and emphasize the importance of making safe choices. Pop culture romanticizes drinking or getting high with friends post-prom as part of the complete prom experience. And while we know 41% of teens aged 16 to 19 indicated it was likely they or their friends will drink or use drugs on prom night (AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety), the goal of No DUI NoCo is to keep anyone who is impaired off the road. Prom Season Teen Impaired Driving Statistics
Hire a ride – A limo ride is a special addition to prom night and ensures teens, who are already excited and distracted, won’t drive impaired. Talk about rules – Talk to your teen before prom night about expectations and road safety, and come up with a plan in case they find themselves in a tricky situation. Start with the CDC’s Teen Driving Contract for a list of talking points. Keep your home open – Let your teen know your house is home base for them and their friends on prom night; bonus if you have snacks, beverages, movies, and/or games. Set an example – Always drive responsibly; your teen is watching you. About No DUI NoCo No DUI NoCo is working to get the word out about the dangers and consequences of teen impaired driving and offering solutions and tips on how to avoid or curb the effects on the greater community. No DUI NoCo, a coalition and campaign born out of the need to address the problem of impaired driving in Larimer and Weld Counties, is working to prevent driving under the influence of alcohol or other substances. Partners, who absorbed this project from the former nonprofit, Team Wellness & Prevention, is the lead agency on this five-year project. Partners has engaged a steering committee and named the project NO DUI NOCO (formerly No DUI Larimer). Contact: Heather Vesgaard, Executive Director - Partners [email protected] Press Release
